Art Spaces

Theaters

Admiral Theatre- 2343 California Avenue SW/206.938.3456/www.farawayentertainment.com/admiral.html// A fun, old theatre you can go to see modern movies. If you're really feeling excitable, you can go there to experience Rocky Horror. You can schedule private events, or just go with a lot of people and have a ton of fun. All movies are always $5.50,  pretty dang cheap these days!

Arts & Crafts

Seattle Yarn Gallery- 5633 California Ave SW/206.935.2010/seattleyarn.com// An amazing yarn shop and probably one of the most reasonably priced in town. They have a great selection and the people who work there are very helpful. They have some classes that are available and if you go to their website they have a Q & A blog that is really helpful: "Ask the Yarn Lady". Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am-8pm

Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10am-5pm and closed Mondays

Bicycle Shops

Books, Newsstands, & Comics

Grocery

Metropolitan Market- 2320 42nd Ave SW/206.937.0551/metropolitan-market.com// A huge store that has the regular grocery store times but also carries some of the fancier items. Have found some really bizarre sodas here like Dandelion soda. But has a coffee shop, bakery, deli, soup bar and some prepared food. But the real clincher is that it is open 24 hours and if you find yourself in West Seattle in the wee hours you will be glad for this!

Restaurants & Cafes

Alki Bakery Cafe- 2738 Alki Ave SW/206.935.1352/www.alkibakery.com// A great coffee shop and bakery right on the beach. You can pop in here and get yourself a coffee or tea while glaring at the people coming out of the Starbuck's right next door. Then with your hot drink or cold drink, depedning on the season, you can take a walk on along the beach.

Revolution Coffee and Art- 4217 SW Admiral Way/206.932.3661/www.revolutioncoffee.net// Pretty small place but has some great art up on the wall and free wi-fi. Open 6:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday and 8am-2pm Saturday and closed Sunday.

C & P Coffee- 5612 California Avenue SW/206.933.3125/www.candpcoffee.com// Great relaxed place with some comfy chairs. Feels very homey mostly because you are in a home from 1907 (that is crazy old) Also is a very kid, mama, and family friendly place. They have a reading room in the back with a small selection of childrens books and toys, and even a little chair for the tots. Open Monday–Friday 6:30am-8pm and Saturday and Sunday 7am-8pm.

Record Stores

Easy Street Records & Cafe- 4559 California Ave SW #200/206.983.3279/easystreetonline.com// This place has all your new popular cds but the real finds are upstairs in the used section. Go up here and this is where the great deals live. You can also get a coffee or some food here but would be hard pressed for a vegan meal but you can get vegetarian stuff. The store is open Monday-Saturday 9am-9pm and Sunday 9am-7pm and the cafe is open everyday 7am-3pm.

Thrift & Clothing

Public Spaces

West Seattle Library- 2306 42nd Ave. S.W./206.684.7444/spl.org// Its the library! Free books, movies, cds, computer access, etc. Just return your stuff and you are good to go. This library is on the small side but remember you can get stuff transferred from any other library in Seattle. Awesome!

Lincoln Park- 8603 Fauntleroy Way Southwest// In a place where beaches don't really exist, Lincoln Park is an amazing alternative. Located right by the water and Vashon Ferry, you can run through the imitating forests, or lay in the green grass. You can walk in the water holding hands with your significant other, or maybe just sit on the bench and gaze at the sunset. All in all, Lincoln Park is probably one of the most gorgeous parks you'll ever go to (preferably during the summer time).

Alki Beach- 1702 Alki Avenue SW// Differing from Lincoln Park completely, Alki Beach is a sort of beach where you'll find lots of rocks, roller bladers, nice beach apartments, typical restaurants, and a fun atmosphere. When it's nice out, you'll find lying in the sand and looking at the skyscrapers that is Seattle is actually sort of enjoyable. So sit back, make an exception for that sugary soda, relax, and enjoy the waves.

Ferry to Vashon- To Vashon (Fauntleroy Terminal):4829 SW Barton and Back to Seattle (Vashon Island Terminal): 10800 North Vashon// Vashon is a good island to go to if you're really too lazy to drive up to the San Juan or BC islands. What's even better is the 15 minute, 3 dollar ferry ride up there. You get to enjoy the stinging, gusty blows of Seattle winds, and the yummy ferry food. When you arrive, you can find a bunch of cute places and isolated fields. My advice is to go and experience the quiet that you won't experience in Seattle.
