Neighborly considerations

The best time to consider neighbors, especially for venues putting on loud shows or late night events, is before moving in. Sometimes even though a space seems great by itself, the neighbors aren't comfortable with punk rock waking up their infant at 9pm and they can't be placated. Many crowded basements have made great show spaces because the neighbors worked late, couldn't hear the noise, or came over and joined in. Usually it's not hard to tell who the neighbors are by the area, but talking to people before you move in next door is a good idea. If you've already moved in to, say, Wedgwood, the solution could be as simple as buying the couple next door movie tickets on show nights so they don't have to be around during your event. Talking to your neighbors in advance is usually a good idea. Invite them over if it seems like they would enjoy it.
